4 ways to Fund Your Immutable zkEVM Wallet

Updated: May 19

To fully engage with the Immutable blockchain ecosystem—home to Vendetta Games NFTs and more—it's essential to load your Immutable zkEVM wallet with some IMX tokens. Transactions on Immutable zkEVM are incredibly cheap (sometimes free!), but having funds in your wallet will enable you to trade NFTs, play games, and use DeFi protocols. Plus, making regular transactions on Immutable zkEVM might just land you an IMX airdrop!

Why Use Immutable Passport?

While Immutable supports popular crypto EVM wallets like MetaMask, they highly recommend using their native Immutable Passport wallet. And for good reason—it's streamlined, secure, and specifically designed to enhance your experience on their platform. We'll focus on the Passport wallet for this guide, though the steps are similar for other EVM-compatible wallets. Read our guide to get started with Passport.

Method 1: Faster Bridge (Recommended)

Best for: Most people

Now you can bridge to Immutable zkEVM from a wide variety of Ethereum layer-2 chains to take advantage of low gas fees. The Faster Bridge is our top pick because it's quick, decentralized, and cost-effective.

Steps:

  1. Prepare some ETH in your MetaMask wallet Supported chains: Arbitrum Nova, Arbitrum One, Astar zkEVM, Avalanche, Base, BSC, ImmutableX, Linea, Loopring, Optimism, Polygon, Polygon zkEVM, Scroll, Starknet, zksync Era, zksync Lite, Zora

  1. Go to Immutable Toolkit - Faster Bridge Faster Bridge is powered by Layerswap and accessible from the Immutable Toolkit.

  2. Connect your MetaMask wallet Click the wallet icon in the upper-right corner and then approve the connection in MetaMask.

  3. Choose the source chain and asset In the From fields, choose the blockchain where your funds are stored in Metamask. Choose ETH as the asset to bridge. Note: You cannot currently bridge IMX, so bridge some ETH. You can swap it for IMX later.

  4. Choose the destination chain and asset In the To fields, choose Immutable zkEVM and ETH.

  5. Choose the amount Remember to leave a small amount of ETH in your MetaMask wallet for transaction fees.

  6. Paste your Immutable zkEVM address You can locate and copy this address from the upper-right corner of your Passport wallet.

  7. Enable "Refuel" If this is your first time funding your Passport wallet, enable Refuel to convert a small amount of ETH to IMX to cover the initial transaction fees.

  8. Bridge the funds Click Swap now to bridge the funds.

  9. Confirm the transfer Check your Passport wallet to confirm the transfer. (In our testing, bridging from Arbitrum One took less than a minute, but speeds may vary.)

Method 2: CEX Transfer Best for: Dedicated CEX users

Now you can withdraw funds directly from your favorite exchange to Immutable zkEVM. This method is ideal for users who prefer the familiarity and ease of centralized exchanges. Note that this method is slightly more complicated, so follow the instructions carefully or your funds could get lost.

Steps:

  1. Prepare some ETH in a compatible CEX Supported exchanges: Binance, Binance US, Bitfinex, BitGet, Bybit, Coinbase, Crypto com App, Crypto.com Exchange, Gate.io, Gemini, HTX, Kraken, Kucoin, MEXC Global, Newton, OKX, Swyftx

  2. Go to Immutable Toolkit - CEX Deposit CEX Deposit is powered by Layerswap and accessible from the Immutable Toolkit.

  3. Choose the source exchange and asset In the From fields, select your exchange from the drop-down list and choose ETH as the asset to bridge.

  4. Choose the destination chain and asset In the To fields, choose Immutable zkEVM and ETH.

  5. Select the withdrawal network Ensure that your CEX supports the network for ETH withdrawals. (Do not choose the Ethereum chain as it's more expensive.)

  6. Choose the withdrawal amount You will manually withdraw this ETH from your CEX later.

  7. Paste your Immutable zkEVM address You can locate and copy this address from the upper-right corner of your Passport wallet.

  8. Click "Swap now"

  9. Complete the swap Click OK to reveal the temporary address to send your funds to.

  10. Copy the destination address You will withdraw your funds from the exchange to this address. Layerswap will then automatically transfer those funds to your Immutable Passport. Important: To avoid losing funds, DO NOT withdraw to your Immutable wallet address. You must use the temporary address provided by Layerswap.

  11. Withdraw your funds to the temporary address Sign in to the exchange you previously selected to complete the manual transfer. Withdraw the amount of ETH you previously selected. Important: Withdraw using the network you selected in Layerswap. If you choose the wrong network you will lose your funds. Learn more about Layerswap manual transfers.

  12. Confirm the transfer Check your Passport wallet to confirm the transfer. (In our testing, transferring from KuCoin on Arbitrum One took less than 5 minutes, but speeds may vary.)

Method 3: Ethereum Bridge

Best for: ETH maxis

You can bridge ETH from the mainnet to zkEVM. Those deeply integrated into the Ethereum ecosystem but looking to explore Immutable zkEVM. Note that this is the most expensive funding method.

Steps:

  1. Prepare some ETH in MetaMask (or other EVM wallet) Swap or transfer ETH into your EVM wallet on the Ethereum network.

  2. Go to Immutable Toolkit - Ethereum Bridge The official Ethereum bridge is accessible from the Immutable Toolkit.

  3. Select the "From" wallet In this guide we use MetaMask, but you can also choose Rabby or any wallet supported by WalletConnect. Ensure your wallet is connected to the Ethereum network.

  4. Choose Ethereum as the "From network"

  5. Choose the amount and click "Review"

  6. Select Immutable Passport as the "To wallet"

  7. Click "Next"

  8. Choose the amount Remember to leave some ETH in MetaMask for transaction fees.

  9. Check the details and click "Confirm move" Check the Fees carefully. Ethereum fees can be high. (In our testing, the fee was only $3.44!)

  10. Click "Okay" then confirm the transaction To initiate the bridge, you need to confirm the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.

  11. Confirm the transfer Check your Passport wallet to confirm the transfer. (In our testing, the transfer took several minutes, but speeds may vary.)

Method 4: Direct Purchase

Best for: New crypto users

You can use your credit card or other payment solution to fund you Immutable zkEVM wallet. New users or those looking to use traditional payment methods like credit cards will find this very convenient. Note that KYC is required.

Steps:

  1. Go to Immutable Toolkit - Buy coins The Buy coins screen is powered by Transak and accessible from the Immutable Toolkit.

  2. Verify Your Identity Complete the KYC process by providing and verifying your email, residential address, official ID, and selfie. Read more about Transak KYC.

  3. Initiate the purchase On the Buy More screen, select the amount of IMX to buy and click Buy Now.

  4. Complete the payment You can pay using your credit card or other services including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, CashApp, and others. The available payment methods depend on your country of residence.

  5. Confirm the transfer Check your Passport wallet to confirm the transfer. (In our testing, the transfer was nearly instant, but speeds may vary.)
